The price of speaking out

Davide at Nether World had the audacity to have a post in which he rightly criticised Israel for another slaughter of the Palestinians.

By doing so, he broke the unwritten law "Thou shalt not speak out against Israel". As a result, he was flooded with comments by the people at GIYUS who tied to smear him, although, oddly, they didn't end up labelling him "Anti-Semitic" which is the usual response.

I just hope it doesn't stop him from making more posts on the topic, but judging by his responses, it's unlikely. Good!

Doesn't mythical mean pretend though?

Literally, it means the oral re-telling of myths. In the days of ancient myth, of course, this was an oral tradition. Chuck and Hoff, however, exemplify the modern-day mythical being: albeit actual living beings, their mythological qualities as circulated by bored DBCs (def #5) makes them the closest analogue we have to the legends of bygone days (my favourite of which is Enki, the wanking botanist).
