Bloggerheads v Guy Fawkes

Tim Bloggerheads has a big, long post about why we should boycott Guy Fawkes.

It basically boils down to Mr Fawkes deleting comments which he disagrees with as well as the stuff from around the time that Mark Oaten was outed as gay (Fawkes labelled him a paedophile) and so is no better than a tabloid newspaper; condemning people for secret funding, but not being willing to show where he gets his funds from and his aims of being Matt Drudge UK, i.e. he's opposed to the current government as it's Labour, but how would he react when the Tories get back in power?

Tim flags up the dangers of people like Fawkes to the rest of us. As we know, the government has already complained about the "crisis" that blogs are causing, which, knowing them, will be used as a reason for laws against us, i.e. a high-profile person being used as an example to pass laws which, although targeted against one person, will be used against a lot of others, using the example of SCOPA and Brian Haws.

I do read Guy Fawkes's blog, but most of the stuff on their isn't of much interest to me. He doesn't seem to be concerned with any actual scoops - apart from one relating to the cash-for-honours probe, which even then was only a press release - only the stuff involving sex (I will, however, give his credit for his coverage of Labour's loans from the Unity Bank, which i don't seem to be able to find elsewhere apart from this post on the NuLabour blog).

As Nosemonkey points out, he may not be worth the hassle - all it'll do is encourage people to go to him as why there's a big boycott. He also adds that different people have different styles, which explains the tabloid-ness of his site.

I'll give Guy Fawkes a couple of more weeks - he's going to do a re-design and I'll see how it turns out - if there doesn't seem to be an improvement, yeah, I'll join it.

UPDATE: Guy Fawkes's response consists of a Photoshopped picture, which appears to have been stolen off Chicken Yoghurt.
